Talk Show Podcast Episode Twelve, Slowing Down the Life

Dwelling in the modern societies, particularly in metropolises, is correlated with a hectic and fast pace that prevents most of the people from taking delight in their present moment. We are led to believe that we ought to accomplish every task as fast as we can; it is as if the whole world is going somewhere pretty quickly yet the majorities do not know where they are going.

Those who know me would tell you that I am a fan of Buddhism as well as Taoism, the ancient Chinese philosophies that consider life on its own purposeless and devoid of meaning. Buddha monks believe that life comes from NOWHERE and goes to NOWHERE while in between there is NOW-HERE.

Thus, this philosophy of life which is used in mediation focuses the life’s attention on merely the present moment rather than the past or the future, and attempts to seek none other than peace of mind by not getting involved with the things that are of no real importance.

I sincerely hope that we would not end-up becoming like one of the grown-ups in the historic book The Little Prince written by Antoine de Saint−Exupery. I yearn that you, the listener, try to slow down if just every now and then, sit for a slow conversation, and try to smell the flowers on the way.

Dear Daniel,

Very interesting topic and thank you for the suggestions. But I believe that you should take things easy as well. Just try to let go of everything, let go of the fear. There are times that we should learn from others peoples' lives and mistakes but there are also times that we should just let go of them and experience life itself on our own. Believe me Daniel life, marriage, ambition, goals and worries and all the things you talked about are not as tragic as you believe they are. I don't have a happy past, I've faced many problems, worries, I've made many mistakes but if I ever got the chance to go back I would never change a thing. Becayse all those experiences have made me who I am now and I'm proud of it! It's the experience that matters. These fears will only keep you away from the happiness you truly deserve. Lose the fear. Life is not that tragic friend. Although we all want to believe that it is.

Oh by the way, I don't know if you have read this book called "The Power" by Rhonda Byrne? I'm sure you know her. If you haven't, I encourage you to read it. I don't think you can find the English version of it here, I myself ordered it from London. If you have read it, then I encourage you to read it again. A great book it is!

Dear Dan:
The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past
You can't go forward in life until
You let go of your past failures and heartaches.

@Aigle: Dear friend, I certainly do not believe that worldly matters are tragic in nature. In fact all of these things are there for a reason, thy are there so we can become more complex in every aspect of our lives and I certainly agree with your accretion that we make mistakes so they make us. I have read and re-read The Power more than a dozen times. The Secret and The Power are my most favorite self-help books of all time and I have immensely benefited from the ideas presented in them.

@Touba: What an interesting statement.

@Mehran: LOL

Dear Dan,I could not agree with you more, I've had the same feeling while dwelling in the U.S. in a fast-paced society, exposed to a lot of conflicts in the job as well,when I returned to Iran I realized that I had been preoccupied too much with other things except life itself, those thins I was led to have a constant fear of, like fear of future or ....- Embracing humanities's value, enjoying life's positive aspects, helping needy ones, participating attentively in spiritual activities, grow old with our children... are some point in the case. Good luck.
